When my father passed away, I went back home for the first time in 20 years.
My sister wanted me to stay with her, but I decided to get a hotel room instead. I was about 15 minutes away from my sister’s home and 30 minutes away from the cemetery. I helped my sister make all of the plans, but I told her that I was not planning to attend the funeral. I was only there to help my sister take care of everything. She was really upset, but she understood why I didn’t want to attend the services. My father was the reason why I had not been home in two decades. The first day I was back in town, my sister and I spent all day working on preparations. By the time I got back to the hotel, I was ready for a long night of rest. The HVAC unit had other ideas for me. It was extremely loud and noisy. I called the front desk clerk to complain about the sound of the AC unit. The guy told me it was normal. His solution to fix the problem with the noisy HVAC system was to bring me a fan that would drown out the noise of the HVAC unit. While I appreciated the offer, it was an absolutely ridiculous idea. After three nights in the hotel, I decided to check out a day early. I stayed one night with my sister. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The next day, I flew back home.
