Over the last three weeks, I had blown a fuse six times.
- Four of those times, the fuse affected the furnace.
Once I changed the fuse, I knew the furnace was in good shape, and all I had to do was reset it, but twice it wouldn’t turn back on. I had to call the HVAC company and have them send someone out to reset the furnace and get it running again. The third time this happened, the same HvAC technician showed up. I apologized and told him I wasn’t sure if it was the furnace or the blown fuse this time. He grumbled and went downstairs to reset the furnace. Five minutes later, he came upstairs, and he was still grumbling. He told me it would be cheaper to get rid of fuses and install a breaker box, like most people. I wouldn’t be paying for an HVAC service call every other day, and I would save money. The fuse box was using up a lot of energy, and it wasn’t big enough for the load I had in the house. I thanked him for his information, but I couldn’t afford to purchase a breaker box. Two weeks later, the furnace was acting up and I called the HVAC company. The same HVAC technician showed up. Before he could say anything, I told him I had installed the breaker box, and it really was the furnace this time. He checked the furnace, and I was worried he was going to say the problem came from all the times the furnace had to be reset, but it wasn’t. He said there was a fuse inside the furnace that had to be replaced, and we both laughed.
