The camp had heating and rather tepid water.

Being an assistant girl scout leader meant when the kids went camping, I went with them.

I started assisting with the girl scout troop when my daughter Sam first joined, and it stuck with me.

The first time Sam and I went camping, the ladies were excited, although I wasn’t. I thought Sam and I would be sleeping in smelly pup tents that didn’t have heat, AC, or lavatories inside. I was right about the tents, but not about where the leaders stayed. Sam and I had tents that were centralized within their troop, but Sam and I had Heating and Air Conditioning, lights, and a portable shower/bathroom right off the porch. I was so excited to go camping with the girl scouts. The first evening Sam and I were there, one of the camp rangers came up to us. She told us my fine friend and I had to stay in the common room for the evening, because there were black bear sightings in the campground. The common room had working electricity, but it had wall to floor windows in every direction. Sam and I made a game out of going outside in groups so my fine friend and I could all take a lavatory break. The nice thing was that my fine friends and I had a stocked kitchen and Heating and Air Conditioning in the common room. The humming of the air conditioner lulled the ladies to sleep, although I was awake all evening. There was only one small light on in the kitchen but I imagined that the bears were looking in the window at me, and sat trying to see out the windows all evening long. After a nice evening’s sleep, the ladies were ready for a day of fun, although I was falling asleep as we walked. I didn’t wake up until I got out of the heat and back into the air conditioner of the common room.
