In my mind, it was similar to an air conditioning window unit, but more modern looking.
I thought it was odd when my sister said she didn’t mind that the house she was buying didn’t have central AC. We’d always grown up with central AC along with the ease and comfort of it, so this was unusual of her. When I questioned her decision, she was confident that she didn’t need central AC. In my mind, I thought she’d be opening the doors and windows to allow a breeze, but this was completely reliant on the weather. If there’s one thing about weather: it’s not reliable. Sensing my discomfort, my sister ensured me that she would still have AC, it just wouldn’t be with ductwork. Instead, she was going to install a ductless mini split system. Like it sounds, there is no ductwork needed to distribute heat and air. Small and sleek units are mounted to the walls and a small remote is used to control them. In my mind, it was similar to an air conditioning window unit, but more modern looking. My sister assured me that the ductless mini split units were more efficient and quieter and she eventually proved it to me. The ductless mini split units were hardly noticeable in her house and they produced enough cool air to keep the entire house comfortable. There was little to no maintenance involved other than replacing the air filters every few months and a general tune up from the HVAC company if needed. Overall, I’m glad my sister installed the ductless system because it seems to be working really well and it saved her a lot of money!
