The drain was clogged with baby wipes

A customer called me on Monday morning and the woman was frantic.

  • She was upset because the bathroom and the master bathroom was clogged up and not draining.

It wasn’t a very busy day on Tuesday, so I had an available appointment immediately. I responded to the call myself, instead of sending one of my plumbing technicians. As soon as I arrived at the address of the customer, I knew why the master bathroom was probably clogged. I saw two empty boxes of diapers in the trash by the house. Baby wipes are one of the biggest problems when it comes to drainage issues. Even though many baby wipes say they are flushable, they still aren’t septic safe and cause a number of issues with the plumbing system. I’ve seen baby wipes clog up the septic system for an entire apartment building. We had to shut the place down for two days while all of the drain lines were cleared. I used an auger to clean the drain line in the master bathroom. I pulled 50 or 60 baby wipes out of the drain line. The woman looked horrified as she watched me pull all of the wipes out of the drain. She asked me to clear the drain line in the second bathroom as well. She had placed a number of baby wipes in that toilet as well. I gave the woman a good deal on the services, because she was a first-time customer. After seeing the destruction that baby wipes can cause, I doubt she will ever flush another wife down the toilet again.
