Today was a day of realization and it has left me feeling just awful.
It occurred to me that I have not been replacing my air filter as frequently as I should have. It’s really no surprise that I’ve been living with such poor indoor air quality. I can’t help but admit that I’ve never been one to give my heating and cooling system the care and attention it deserves. I can think of only one time when I was concerned about the upkeep of my heating and cooling system and that was to ensure that I could enjoy the high quality indoor comfort. Outside of that, I ignore it and have only called when I need repairs when something goes wrong. I’m sure some people take excellent care of their HVAC system, but I’m not one of them. My air conditioner broke down a few months ago, so I called the local heating and cooling company to come and fix it as usual. When the HVAC technician arrived, he looked at me and said, “oh no, not again.” Those words right there made me feel even worse. He did his job to repair my air conditioning and said that I just need to be on top of the air filters and he showed me how to replace them. It wasn’t the first time he has shown me this and I’m sure he knew that but he still took the time to do so. I guess I can appreciate that this HVAC technician still cares enough to show me how to replace the air filters. If I were him, I would’ve given up by now.
