It was time for the little boy to grow up.
That’s what I kept telling my mom.
But, I could see the resistance in her eyes when I said I wanted to move out. As a young guy now working, I wanted to start dating. Can you imagine bringing a girl over to my mom’s house each time I wanted her to come by? That wasn’t going to work, so I searched for a rental place behind mom’s back. A friend helped me, and we came across this rental place not far from where I worked. It was kind of old, and to make matters worse, the air conditioner looked even worse. But, it was the only thing within my price range. From there, I could walk to and from work since I didn’t have a car yet. I spoke to the owner about replacing the ancient air conditioner since it was bad news. It’s not possible to live through summer in our town without proper air conditioning. But, the owner had bad news. He said the air conditioner still had a few years in it, so he wouldn’t change it. Instead of arguing, I chose to rent the place and find another way to keep the space cool. We went to town and came upon an HVAC shop. After speaking to the owner about my predicament, he advised me to get a mini-split AC with zoning. That way, I didn’t have to use the old air conditioner in my new place. I’d take my ductless cooling unit with me if I ever move out.
