My house has multiple skylights in the living room.
I just love the look of them.
The natural light pouring in is just glorious. It really makes the space look bigger too. My husband is always trying to cover them up. I think he feels it would be easier to remove them and put up drywall. Well, yeah probably. I wouldn’t love my living room the way I do. I know my husband is irritated that the skylights are a bit of work. I am constantly cleaning the inside of them and painting it to look new. My husband frequently has to fix them due to leaks. The glass doesn’t seem to sit too flush anymore. I have made my husband go on the roof multiple times to fix the issue. He always threatens to take them out. He wants to do the fast patch over the long term fix. He also doesn’t like heights and wants to avoid going on the roof anymore. No such luck with me. I told him that I would hire professional roofers before removing those skylights. He grumbled and got back to work. I figure one of these days I will have the roofers take a look at my light. I want to ensure that everything is sealed tight. The water coming into the house is gross. I also worry it will ruin my floors if it keeps being a problem. I spent good money on hardwood floors. I would hate to warp the wood or cause it to swell with the water leaking in constantly.
