I come from a small town in the middle of nowhere.
Well, perhaps I’m being a little dramatic.
It’s not such a bad place, but our town only had 3500 residents. Many people are farmers, while others run small businesses in town. The area has two churches, one of which my parents and I attend. Last Sunday, we all got up early as we always did and got ready. Resting on the farm was a foreign concept, so we rushed to do morning chores before heading to church. On such a hot summer morning, I looked forward to the cool conditions inside the church. But, what I found was quite the opposite. It seemed like the commercial cooling unit that made the church comfortable in summer was broken. All the windows were open, and the place felt muggy. Dad was concerned and went to speak to an attendant about this issue. The attendant didn’t have any good news for him. It seems like the cooling unit had broken the previous day. The pastor had called an AC business to send someone to fix it, but no one was available until Monday. Since the next day was Sunday, the pastor saw it fit to try and figure out the problem. While working on the air ducts, he leaned too far, as he was standing on the ladder and fell. The pastor ended up breaking his ankle due to trying to fix the faulty commercial cooling unit on his own. It would have been better to explain the issue to the congregation and wait for the HVAC professionals to come on Monday.
