The gas fireplace in my client’s bedroom stopped working a year before they finally called our heating company for heating repair. They had taken a year to make the call because they wanted a full replacement with the newest electric heater at the heating dealership, which they’d been told would add value to their home if they thought about selling. They were long-term clients because the HVAC professional team at our heating dealership always handled heating maintenance for their furnaces. We were familiar with the house and knew the appropriate heating equipment to install. The logs they burnt couldn’t be controlled if the electric heating we would install could be controlled using an intelligent thermostat. We had to close off the old chimney and install a new one that would fit the type of heating device we were installing. With everything available at our heating dealership, we didn’t struggle to acquire everything we needed, and we also had a heating specialist team that could handle all the HVAC installation work in three days. However, the trouble was getting a permit to change the house from what had been approved. My clients thought that it was something a heating technician could handle easily, so they had a short deadline, but when we informed them about the permits, we needed more time. If they were lucky, they’d get what they needed to be approved within the shortest time possible, but it took two months for the work to be approved. We tried to help speed up the process, but that particular house had been transformed too many times over the years and it was becoming problematic. Eventually, they got approved, and we did the work and gave them the house update they wished for.
