A much deserved break

Record breaking lows and no sunshine to be seen

My parents called the other afternoon to say that they needed to come and visit. Now, I cherish to have them come to town, see the kids, and spend time with us, but, I was worried. There was something in my mom’s voice this time that made me think this was not an proper visit. There were no major holidays, as my associate and I had just had Christmas and New Year’s and I had a gut instinct that something was up. Now, I live in Southern Florida and my associate and I enjoy the weather no matter what time of year it is. Even hurricane season usually leaves us unscathed. My parents live up North and have always said they would never transfer anywhere else because they like the mild summers and change of seasons. When they arrived, they threw me for a loop, because they said they would household hunting while they were here. I asked my Mom why he had made such a abrupt decision as I had just talked to them during the holidays and all was great. He said that the recent deep freeze that they had been under for week had really taken a toll on Mom’s health. She spent his afternoons huddled by the woodstove all the while complaining about how frosty he was. The energy bills were through the roof and dealing with ice, afternoon in and afternoon out, was getting to him too, he and mom used to shovel the driveway together so it was easier, now, he barely went outside, but even the Heating, Ventilation and A/C system in the household was having difficulty keeping up with the sub-zero uneven temperatures all the time. They keep saying that it is like an old fashioned northern winter. Record breaking lows and no sunshine to be seen. I know that can get to anyone.
