People overemphasize how attractive it is to be “privileged” around here occasionally. We are made to feel guilty for having things handed on a silver platter, but no one ever talks about the fact that this can seriously hold you back in life, too. For instance, when you get a home of your own, and have no air quality control plan because no body told you to get a professional HVAC repair plan. I’m currently dealing with this, myself, as I wait for a new system to be installed. Growing up, I never had to learn how to do anything. Until recently, I had an HVAC system with a smart temperature control, oil furnace, and strong evaporative cooling device. I never thought about this equipment. No one ever told me that I should. I didn’t know that HVAC breakdowns were even possible. All I knew was that touching the temperature control would change the indoor air temperature; I figured the rest of the plan just worked itself out. Now, I know important work needs to be done. Unfortunately, I found this out too late. I had to learn about the challenges of energy usage – heating and cooling – from a professional who ran tests on my air conditioning and furnace the other day. They looked at me care about I was an idiot when I asked, “What professional repair schedule?”
