I remember back in highschool taking American history.
History was my favorite subject in school and I didn’t mind it.
I always got “A’s” in that class and I thoroughly enjoyed the way my teacher taught. I remember one particular topic was a lesson on labor laws. A lot of workers in the early 1920s faced long hours, and terrible working conditions. I could never imagine working in a factory for long hours in very hot or very cold conditions and getting paid very minimal. At work the other day we had a technician come to fix the HVAC system. Supposively it broke down. It was in the middle of the summer and every one in the office was sweating. It reminded me of the labor lesson I learned in high school, as I was feeling very warm and uncomfortable. The technician finally fixed the problem and we were all back to feeling comfortable again. The next day I showed up to work and saw contractors working all over the office. According to the technician that showed up yesterday he told the owner load reducing options so the HVAC system doesn’t have to constantly running. Some suggestions to the owner were reducing solar gain. Contractors were placing window tints on certain windows that receive a lot of sunlight. This was to keep unnecessary heat out. The contractors were also installing energy efficient lighting because the old lighting fixtures were outdated and also letting off unnecessary heat. I think working in a safe energy efficient and comfortable work environment is important.
