Our company’s fiscal year and approached and we were all dreading the outcome of the report.

It has been a tough year on us both sales and cost-wise and we were hoping that we would all be able to maintain our jobs.

Federal regulations and new import export taxes had taken a toll on our profits for sure and if the company wasn’t going to be able to recover from these changes then we knew that many of us would be laid off. We were all called to a meeting when the report arrived and we’re surprised that due to increased, sales there were going to be no pink slips issued. The boss did tell us that we would not be receiving any sort of raise in the coming year and that was due to the fact that we had to spend so much money on building maintenance. The thing they put us over the top in spending in that department was the fact that we had to replace the commercial HVAC system that operated in our building. The company decided to take a greener approach to heating and cooling and completely replaced the old gas burning system that we had for heat. They invested in solar units for both heating and air conditioning which will, in time, pay for themselves and save the company thousands of dollars a year. For now however, The upfront cost was too much and really hurt the company’s bottom line for the year. In the long run the company will be much more profitable because it isn’t spending as much on energy cost but for now we just have to deal with the fact that we will not be adding to our own income in the next year or so.

Anyway, needless to say I was shocked and surprised to see the large HVAC unit that normally sat on the roof sitting in the parking lot in a mangled mess.

I awoke Monday morning ready to head back to the office after a two-week vacation. I felt rested and ready to go because I had relaxed on the beach and done nothing for the entire time I was gone. I really needed a recharge after tax season because I’m an accountant at a large firm downtown and we had worked many hours of overtime to complete everyone’s request by the federal deadline. During my time away our area had been ravaged by several severe storm friends but my home survive with little to no damage. No one had bothered to call me to tell me that the building where our offices were located had been hit by a tornado and there were several things that were not working. Living in the South you always run the risk of having these things happen but it was unusual for this time of year to have such severe storms. Anyway, needless to say I was shocked and surprised to see the large HVAC unit that normally sat on the roof sitting in the parking lot in a mangled mess. Fortunately we don’t require the use of heat much in our area but I couldn’t imagine how stuffy the building was going to be without any sort of ventilation system running. Thankfully it is only a two story building so I didn’t have to endure the heat that would have built up in a taller building. There were repair Crews on-site trying to install the new unit and at least we had the ability to open the windows to air the place out.

I have always heard about trade shows and all of the information that you can gather while you are there.

Until now I haven’t had the opportunity to go to one but when I was sent to and electronics show I was surprised to see what innovations were actually on the market.

One area where I spent a lot of my time had to do with the heating and cooling industry. My house is older and I simply have a furnace and a couple of window mounted air conditioners so I had no idea what was available to the consumer. A lot of the units that are on the market today are much smaller and way more efficient than the one I have. This got me thinking that I should really look into a newer system that would save me money on my utility cost but then I decided I should wait to see what was coming up next. Even though these modern units were amazing I can only imagine what will be developed within the next few years. Engineers and designers are working constantly trying to come up with more convenient and efficient ways to keep our homes warm in the winter and cool in the summer. There are also many advances in personal climate control. I can almost imagine each person one day carrying their own climate control device with them all the time so that they are at an optimum temperature. Technological advances are happening everyday and no industry is changing faster than the HVAC industry. With greater focus on environmental concerns and energy conservation there is no telling where that industry will go in the future.

My husband received a promotion at his job and we relocated last winter.

We found a really cute house in a small town not far from his office and were thrilled with our purchase.

The house is located in a rural area where there are many farm fields and everyone in town is very friendly. Everything was going great until spring time when we noticed a very strong smell in the air. I had open the windows to do some spring cleaning but close to them about half an hour later when my entire house smelledl like a barn. The farm field next door was being fertilized and there was no way I could leave the windows open. As soon as my husband arrived home, I told him that we needed to seriously look into some sort of whole house HVAC system because I needed a way to keep the house comfortable and not let in the smell. The next day we contacted the local HVAC dealer and have them come out to give us an estimate. I told him that anhair purification unit on our HVAC system was a priority to me because I wanted to ensure that my home smelled fresh and clean all the time. I needed something powerful enough to combat the smell of the fertilization of the farm fields. I still love our house and its location but it is easier to tolerate now that I can sit inside and not have to put up with that. The farmers next door are really nice people and I guess they are used to it but for us city folks it is a different story.

Now, the fun part begins.

There will be a long list of things to be done, some right away, some down the line. The house has an apartment that can be rented out so one of the first things they want to do is paint up there and make sure that everything is ready for tenants. As part of their income will depend on having that space occupied. Fortunately for them, both my husband and myself have been through this before. Our own home needed significant remodeling with we first bought it as well. They are very concerned about the HVAC system in particular. It is older and there are two separate systems. One for their living space and one for the apartment. The previous owners did little to upkeep the space let alone maintain regular tune ups of the system. The ductwork has not been cleaned in years so this will be a number one priority. My job, before I go over is to contact a list of HVAC dealers to see how much it will cost to have the cleaning done and the units looked at. There is always a service call associated with these inspections so I want them to get the best deals possible. Once I have the list compiled, they can decide who they want to go with. We want them to be as in control of all the changes as possible but also be here to help when needed. I just know that having reliable heat that is clean and efficient is a number one priority at this point.

While heading down to do laundry last Saturday, my neighbor was met with the sound of spraying water and a very wet basement floor.

She immediately called out to her husband for help.

He went down and shut off the main water valve but the water continues to pool on the floor. Upon further inspection, he found that the water was spraying from the holding tank of the boiler. There was no way to turn off the water that was coming from there so they simply tried to collect it in a bucket. My neighbor called for a repairman and was thankful that it was during the Fall when they didn’t need to run the heat yet. The holding tank finally stopped spewing water when it was empty and then her husband looked a bit closer. There was a crack along the seam line and he knew that it would need replacing. While waiting for the technician they went online to see about ordering the part themselves. They learned that they could and that the installation was fairly simple too. The part was attached by clamps and seals so it didn’t even require any special tools. They ended up cancelling the repairman and ordered the parts themselves. Thanks to Youtube and other online resources, instructional videos have made if simple to make minor repairs yourself sometimes. If you are ever unsure of something, especially when it comes to something like your HVAC system, you should always trust a professional. They are fully trained and you never want to mess up something that you have invested a significant amount of money in.

As our Nation mourns the loss of one of our past Presidents there are many things that come to mind. To some, this time passes without thought of days gone by. To others, there is great sorrow for the passing. One of the things that is touched upon is the fact that this person was more of humanitarian than anything else. You can’t help but be compelled to follow in that idea. My husband came home from work saying that he wanted to volunteer with a local shelter downtown. I said that would gladly join him and do what I could to help out too. When we arrived we asked where they needed help and when they learned that my husband was an electrician, they asked him if he knew anything about furnaces. He had no formal training but said he could take a look at one. It turned out that many of the less fortunate who came for dinners and such were in need of repairs to their HVAC systems but could not afford it. He felt this was a great way that he could help out. He offered his services, such as they were, but also told them that he had some friends that worked for local HVAC companies that he could call too. It doesn’t seem like much but it will help a few. We should all do what we can and making people’s homes safe and warm will bring joy to them. Being reminded that we are to do good for others sometimes is a good thing. If everyone does a little, much can be done.

Procrastination should be my middle name! I am constantly running late whether it is to work or a party.

My family makes a joke about it often and even tells me an earlier time of arrival in hopes that I will arrive at the real time I need to be somewhere.

As I am very aware of this fault, I try and make arrangements for things to just happen without my needing to call and make appointments, mostly because I will put it off until too late. This is definitely the case with my annual tune up of my HVAC system. I learned a hard lesson with regards to this one year and following that, I immediately signed up for a maintenance agreement. The technician who had worked on my system said that it was good that I had finally called. The furnace was in dire need of maintenance and could have conked out on me in the middle of the night. He then gave me the information to register for the maintenance agreement. He assured me that this would automatically put my appointment on the calendar and that I would be notified of the date and time. This would eliminate the need for me to make arrangements or my having to take time out of my schedule to do so. If you are like me, and tend to put things off, please consider contacting your own HVAC dealership and inquire about the programs that they offer. It will save you time and money in the long run. I have never regretted that decision and I am sure you won’t either.

I was satisfied by the work that my provider did.

I am a current homeowner. I bought a small condo off of a country road. The condo is really current inside. This is because replaced Heating, Ventilation plus A/C systems are smaller now and more efficient, then now it is less high-priced to operate my unit. I was satisfied by the work that my provider did. When he left he said in about two months to supply them a call to do a periodic repair check. I agreed and set up another appointment with him in the next two months. He insisted that periodical checks are suggested highly.
